Organize or bust

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I have found the hard way that keeping a tidy workplace and a tidy home is conducive to peace of mind and greater productivity.

I work from home, so that means that I actually have to work twice as hard to keep both areas organized and apart from each other.

It is too easy for me to walk in the door and plop the unopened mail on top of the dining room table, which also happens to be my desk! My kids tend to deposit their backpacks in the hallway, which is also my library! If we keep this up long enough, I will soon be not working at all, but just spending my days putting everything where it belongs, if there is such a place!

Organizational systems need not be complicated. The “Keep it Simple” approach is always the best, no matter how trite it may seem. If you always leave the dirty clothes in the dirty clothes hamper, your keys hanging from the key hanger and your wallet on the dresser, for example, you will always find them! Common sense, of course, but we usually get so caught up in our daily busyness (the “y” is purposeful), that we run into the house and leave things wherever … Then, we waste precious time looking for it all.

At the online store “Wrapables” I found a lot of organizational material for my own home. By using the Back to School coupons for this site you can also get hampers, key-holders, desktop organizers and more at a discounted price. You can also get discount by using Wrapables Promo Code.

This will come in handy once the kids are back in school and you are juggling work, parenthood and ah, life!

How to save Money with Back to School Deals

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

In some states, such as Florida, kids will be back in public school on August 18. In other states, that happens right after Labor Day. In any case, the kiddos and their parents are getting ready for the Back to School season. One of my daughters’ elementary school teacher posted on her Facebook profile today that she was going to visit her classroom already!

That got me thinking about the fact that we need school supplies and uniforms. Even though public schools will usually provide children with everything they need for the classroom, they also post a list on the Internet or mail it to the parents, of the required supplies for the school year.

If you can afford to, consider donating an extra set of everything your child requires, such as scissors, glue, pencils, notebooks, erasers, folders and whatever else is on your school list. In these days we truly don’t know if and when it will be our time to be on the receiving end and it will feel good to have helped another family that may not even look like they need your help!

When choosing a backpack for your child, keep in mind that cheaper is not always the best way to go, unless you are buying a sturdy brand at a discounted price. Make sure the backpack fits your child comfortably and that it has room for everything he or she will be taking to and from the classroom every day.

Some of them come equipped with a matching lunchbox that easily attaches to the backpack and is insulated for preserving your kid’s food at adequate temperatures even when there is no fridge available in the classroom. By using Back To School Coupons you can also avail discount.

New school supplies are always a fun part of going back to the classroom. While you’re at it, why not buy some for yourself to unleash your own creativity come mid August or September?

Tips to avoid insomnia

Friday, July 24th, 2009

More and more people complain about tossing and turning at night. Oftentimes insomnia is caused by worrying about problems when the lights are out. Others it is because you did not get adequate exercise during the day or because you are overtired.

There are different things you can do to help you fall asleep and stay asleep and wake up feeling rested instead of tired and unable to face the day ahead.

One of them is to make sure that your mattress is comfortable for you. Some swear by memory foam mattresses or mattress toppers. These conform to your body’s shape and are supposedly kinder on your back and joints than regular spring mattresses. But not everyone feels that way. Try one first, if you can, and then decide whether it is for you.

Do your best to go to bed at the same time every day. If you can’t stop turning problems over in your head, listening to relaxing music or a relaxation audio book can help. You can download these from the Internet to listen to them on your MP3 player or Ipod. You can also avail discount on electronics accessories by using Electronics Accessories Coupons.

Burning lavender incense, or applying a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow can help you unwind.

Getting out of bed and reading or doing an activity outside of your bed seems to be a common suggestion but it does not work for me. I can fall asleep reading a book in my bed, as long as it is a mindless read such as a magazine or a light novel.

Going to bed feeling hungry is also a trigger for sleeplessness, so make sure that you eat something light before you retire. A glass of milk, that contains tryptophan, is a tried and true remedy. Sweet dreams!

Sportswear Promo Code Right Choice For Getting Discount

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Summer is a season a lot of us look forward to, because it offers the opportunity to spend more time outdoors. From cookouts to pool parties or weekends at the beach and hikes, depending where you live.

No matter what activities we choose to do outdoors, it is vital to stay safe and take certain precautions. When at the pool, make sure you don’t lose sight of your youngest kids. If they can’t swim on their own yet, a floater swimming suit is a fun and good option to help them do the transition from a life vest to paddling themselves.

A broad-spectrum sunscreen is a must for the whole family. Since my sister was diagnosed with stage one malignant melanoma (fortunately it was surgically removed), I am very aware of the dangers of the sun. A wide brimmed hat or visor is recommended too, not only to protect yourself from skin cancer, but also from premature ageing of the skin, also known as photo-ageing. In lay terms, those are wrinkles and sunspots that can be avoided by taking preventative measures. Check out the Sportswear Promo Code.

A rash-guard or full body swimsuit is a good idea if you are planning on spending a full day at the beach or pool, and if you live in Florida or Southern California, for example.

Mosquito-repellent is a must in many areas in the summer. Go for the mildest one, that you can use on the whole family, and when outdoors at night, use an anti-mosquito coil or citronella candle. You can get all these things and more using our Sports & Outdoors Coupons for sports and outdoors.

If you unfortunately do get a sunburn, aloe vera gels are soothing and fast acting. For mosquito bites, there are also ointments available to calm the itch. However prevention is the best remedy.

eHarmony Coupons Best Way to Get Discount

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Years ago, online dating was thought to be for losers and as a last resort. Very few people would admit to ever having used an online dating service. On the other hand, now I meet married couples that actually boast about having met online!

The world is a busier place now. The more reachable we are via Internet, e-mail, smart-phones and online social networks, the more difficult it seems to get away from work responsibilities. By using eHarmony Promo Code you can also avail discount.

Socializing in person is becoming a rare commodity and engaging in activities where singles can meet other singles is also not accessible to everyone. The reasons: young children, a demanding career, a limited budget and more.

In order to be successful at online dating, first choose reputable sites where you usually have to pay a fee, but in exchange get the service of screening candidates, which is generally not offered in free sites.

Make sure you post recent pictures of yourself – after all, if you hope to meet your candidates in person, you should be showing yourself the way you are – albeit in the best light. Avoid air-brushing your pictures to the max. Be honest in your description of your likes and dislikes and what you are looking for in a partner.

E-Harmony, for example, requires candidates fill out a 500-question survey, which – if answered honestly – will make it more likely that you meet someone who matches your profile.

It is more reasonable to look for candidates close to where you live, unless you really want a long-distance relationship, which does not usually work out in the real world. Try to meet up in person as soon as possible, to avoid wasting time with candidates who you don’t have any “real-life” chemistry with. Chats and even the phone can be deceiving, because there is no eye contact and no body language to read into.

Do not have hyped expectations, but also be open-minded and patient, and who knows, you may find your better half. Make sure you can get discount by using eHarmony Coupons.

Netflixs no late fees policy is my friend

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I have two young kids and at the moment I do not have cable at home – I’m paring down on basic expenses as much as possible. For me, the advantages of my kids not having TV channels to flip through at home are several. One of them is that they aren’t bombarded by commercials that tell them they need this or that to be happy. You can get discount by using Netflix Coupons.

Therefore, they do not ask for unnecessary stuff that they may see on commercial breaks. Another advantage is that they have learned how to entertain themselves in ways that even I – the epitome of creativity – find astonishing. My 8-year-old takes any cardboard box and makes it into a puppet theater, then turns it into a car, then into a hideout an finally cuts it out and it becomes a guitar, for example. And all this, while I work at home in the next room.

However, we live in the real world, and movie watching is a big part of it. Besides, movies, like books, can teach important life lessons and provide an alternative mode of entertainment.

For that purpose, I have been using Netflix for the past few years. I subscribe to the 3-movies-at-once option and both my girls and myself update our queue and also use the “watch instantly” option often.

The biggest advantage Netflix has is the “no late fees” service. I recently was out of the country on an unexpected trip, and when I returned, I had accrued $50 in late fees at my local library. This included late fees for movies that would have been free had I returned them on time.

However, Netflix was there for us the movies in their sleeve waiting to be watched and no late fees adding up. In the end, it turned out to be the cheaper option, besides the fact that I don’t have to drive anywhere to return the movies, but drop them in the mail at any time of day or night. By using Netflix Promo Code you can also avail discount.

Feel good at the beauty counter

Friday, July 17th, 2009

We cannot buy beauty; it is something that glows from within. However, there is something about applying a new face cream, a scented silky body lotion or pressing a new color of lipstick against your lips that can lift both body and spirit. Hanging out at a Sephora store in person or online can be an energizing and sensual experience. By using Sephora Promo Code you can also avail discount.

Even when we cannot splurge on other more expensive things, small luxuries such as a bottle of Eau de Toilette, make-up brushes or a new foundation that matches your skin tone exactly can make your day.

Looking and feeling good are confidence boosters, and every woman should have at least the basic tools at hand to help her achieve the best look at the most affordable price.

Even if you purchase online, it is worth browsing at a brick-and-mortar beauty counter, in order to smell the scents and match make-up colors to your complexion.

In order to boost your confidence and put your best face forward, there are certain products a woman should always have handy: a moisturizer – of a lighter texture for summer and humid climates, and thicker for winter and drier environments, a moisturizing and light under-eye concealer that won’t cake in crow’s feet, should you have any, sheer foundation, mascara, blush and lipstick. If you top that off with eye-shadow, lip-liner (that matches your lipstick), lip-gloss, loose or pressed powder and a natural-looking bronzer, then you have it all.

Make-up should not be about trying to cover up behind a mask of color, but about enhancing your best features and helping you shine in your best light, no matter where you are or what you are doing.
Who says a “natural” look means going bare faced? However, a seemingly bare face could look natural but be cleverly contrived in a very short time, using the right tools. Make sure you can get discount on Sephora products by using Sephora Coupons.

Fandango Coupons Right Idea To Get Discount on Movies

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

What used to be a regular event for my family – going to the movies – is becoming a special treat to be enjoyed on occasion. A family of four can easily spend around $70 or more on one single outing to a movie theater. Even if you catch a matinee and you have young kids, buying some popcorn and a couple of drinks will easily match the price you paid for the tickets.

Fortunately, there are ways around this. First of all, I personally feed my kids at home, before we go out to see the latest kiddy flick. In all honesty, kids do not need soft drinks – neither do I – and there are water fountains everywhere to quench real thirst. My girls are used to not eating junk food, so that makes our outing that much more affordable.

I do my research online and find what local theatres are playing and choose the cheapest venue. For example, there is a small and slightly run-down theatre where I live that is at least $2 cheaper per ticket than the larger and more comfy Cineplex. If I can catch the same movie at the more reasonably priced one – which usually has no lines of people – I will go there.

I also search online for movie coupons such as Fandango Promo Code and use the ones that apply to the movie we have chosen to watch.

Even though I could wait until it is out on DVD, there is something about watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in IMAX that is obviously missing from the home DVD experience, especially since I don’t own a high definition TV set. You can also avail discounts on high definition TV sets by using Tv & Hdtvs Coupons.

Summer camping outdoors or indoors

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

When the heat is on, camping can be a fun activity to do, outdoors or even indoors. You can also avail discount by using Camping & Hiking Coupons.

Before kids go back to school, there are many days and nights in which to do fun stuff. Even if you cannot camp outside because it is too hot, too humid or too mosquito-laden, your kids will love to set up camp even in their own room!

As an end of year good-grades present, my 8-year-old daughter asked for a small tent. So far she has not been able to use it outdoors, because of all the reasons stated above. Too hot, too humid and too many mosquitoes! However, both her younger sister and her have got hours of fun out of it this summer.

We set it up in their bedroom and in it they have enjoyed activities such as watching a DVD on a laptop computer, reading books with a flashlight, napping and even having dinner. Kids have a great imagination and for them anything that is a little different from what we consider routine can turn into a lifelong memory of fun and adventure.

Even when my girls didn’t have that tent, they would use a sheet over a couple of chairs or a table, and turned it into their own indoor “hideout”. Do make sure if they do this that they are old enough to know how to be safe and that you are always keeping an eye on them.

You can throw sleeping bags in the mix, and if they have guests for a sleepover or slumber party, it will be even more fun to pretend they are actually camping out. By using Sports & Outdoors Coupons you can also get discounts.

If you have a backyard and the weather permits, then by all means let them enjoy a real campout! You may even want to consider joining them!
