Before kids go back to school, there are many days and nights in which to do fun stuff. Even if you cannot camp outside because it is too hot, too humid or too mosquito-laden, your kids will love to set up camp even in their own room!
As an end of year good-grades present, my 8-year-old daughter asked for a small tent. So far she has not been able to use it outdoors, because of all the reasons stated above. Too hot, too humid and too many mosquitoes! However, both her younger sister and her have got hours of fun out of it this summer.
We set it up in their bedroom and in it they have enjoyed activities such as watching a DVD on a laptop computer, reading books with a flashlight, napping and even having dinner. Kids have a great imagination and for them anything that is a little different from what we consider routine can turn into a lifelong memory of fun and adventure.
Even when my girls didn’t have that tent, they would use a sheet over a couple of chairs or a table, and turned it into their own indoor “hideout”. Do make sure if they do this that they are old enough to know how to be safe and that you are always keeping an eye on them.
